The investigation of meaningful work, focusing on the self- and other-oriented dimensions, looked at how daily perceived autonomy support and prosocial impact shaped individuals' experience of meaningfulness in their work. A diary-based study followed 86 nurses from multiple hospitals, who recorded their work experiences daily for ten days straight, producing a dataset of 860 entries. Multilevel modeling analysis indicated that daily perceptions of autonomy support and prosocial impact were positively linked to daily meaningful work, which acted as an intermediary between these factors and work engagement. A prosocial orientation contributed to a stronger positive relationship between a person's daily perception of prosocial impact and their daily experience of meaningful work. In contrast, autonomy orientation's moderating influence on the relationship between perceived daily autonomy support and daily experiences of meaningful work was negative, demanding a crucial distinction between supporting and asserting autonomy. Likewise, participants described their reliance on predicted emotional intensity, rather than frequency or duration, when selecting universities (Study 2), choosing a presidential candidate (Study 3), and deciding on travel as Covid-19 cases decreased (Study 4). Studies 1 and 3 both probed the accuracy of forecast methodology. Emotional intensity predictions by participants are more accurate compared to forecasts of frequency or duration.
